May Crowning Essay
The Blessed Virgin Mary symbolizes love, courage, and, of course, faith. Saint Therese of Lisieux said, “In trial or difficulty, I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear.”. In the beginning of the Catholic church and still today, the Blessed Virgin is an enormous figure in catholic society. She is tenderness, hope, and tenacity. Not only is she a big part of God’s plan of salvation, she is crucial in the lives of every member of the Catholic Church.
We are told as Catholics to love our neighbors because we are all made in the image of and likeness of God. Whether it’s a small hello to a friend or returning lost money when you could keep it instead, kindness brings us closer to Mary and God. Mary urges Catholics to grow in the virtues of honesty, compassion, and empathy. To be there for others in need. God is in everyone, so we must treat one another with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Mary accepted God’s plan for her fully and completely, knowing the risks involved. She knew that she would surely be punished for being pregnant out of wedlock. This moment in Mary’s life is very important. Many people today wouldn't have said yes to Gabriel's offer on any occasion. Mary said yes even before consulting Joseph, this shows her bravery and faith in God.
Her actions teach Catholics to trust God even when our situation is not looking so bright. Her life was constantly uprooted because she needed to flee where she was to keep Jesus safe. She demonstrates that when you have faith in God and trust the process, it will always come out right, just as it did for her and Jesus.
Mary is steady in faith and unwavering in trust in God’s plan. While in Bethlehem, she gave birth to her son Jesus. Even in this tense and painful situation, she gave birth to her son, knowing that he would save the world and fulfill God’s plan. When Mary stood at the cross, knowing her beloved son was bound to die, she stayed there for her son, so she could be there until the moment of his death.
Mary’s maternity gives us a sense of warmth when it comes to her. Her patience with us and with Jesus, her unconditional love regardless of our sins, are just a small part of Mary’s motherly love for us as the sons and daughters of God. In a constantly changing world, Mary’s love is a strong foundation that we can constantly look to for hope and comfort. We can always go to her in times of need or uncertainty.
Ultimately, When I think of Mary, I think of love, courage, and faith. I think of the many sacrifices she made for her son and God. Without Mary’s many sacrifices, we would not have the world we have today. Mary brings us closer to the truth of God, she teaches us what it means to be a good Catholic. As a Catholic, I believe all people should strive to be more like her in any way they can.
